Hey guys!
About a year ago one of my best friends, Daniel Kellogg (20 years old at the time), was diagnosed with the most rare and aggressive form of testicular cancer that exists. When doctors discovered the cancer it was already pretty advanced and had spread throughout his body. Over the past year he’s braved through multiple chemotherapy options that have been very taxing on his body and ultimately unsuccessful. As you can tell, it’s pretty frustrating.
Recently, Danny and his mother Beatriz journeyed to Germany so he could try out a new treatment only available there. It’s called immunepheresis and basically what happens is a machine helps cycle out Danny’s blood and then essentially unmasks the cancer cells and allows his immune system to attack them. It’s pretty cool and unlike other treatments it seems to be WORKING! (at least as of now). This is a pretty exciting thing to happen because all other, more traditional, forms of treatment have been unsuccessful.
Here’s where YOU come into play: This treatment is VERY costly…and insurance covers none of it. Immunepheresis requires life long upkeep. Initially Danny will have to go back to Germany (or stay in Germany) to receive treatments and EACH TIME it costs $50,000. Eventually, if it continues to be successful the treatments will be less frequent but will still cost as much as $25,000. Now, I know that money is tight across the board, so if you have nothing to spare obviously that is quite alright and I just ask of you to keep Danny in your good thoughts. But if you DO have a dollar to spare I ask for you to visit C.A.R.E for Danny and send along a donation, view is his video blog, and read up on the situation.
Every dollar makes a difference!!
Danny is now 21, and has been bravely fighting this disease for a year. He is an engineering student at Virginia Tech and loves doing things outside, playing soccer, hanging with his friends, listening to music, and just being a generally AWESOME person. He lives a healthy life and cannot wait to get back to school once he finally beats this disease. And that’s a picture of us at a graduation party in 2008 when we graduated high school.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! and Happy New Year!
