Suzanne Pharr, Homophobia: A Weapon of Sexism
“Many heterosexual women see her as someone who stands in contradiction to the sacrifices they have made to conform to compulsory heterosexuality.”
That’s fucking… fascinating.
^^ that is super interesting. i saw someone write on a critique and i can’t remember who exactly so sorry for lack of credit, but it wasn’t me. they wondered if men were actually attracted to women or to the act of womanness, of the socialized air of being a woman. and likewise you can ask the same to women who id as straight about men, are you attracted to men as a gender or are you attracted to the socialized act of maleness? and if so, that makes that statement even more so true because aside from the obvious sacrifices of being straight woman and dealing with sexism, their is also the actual sacrifice of being socialized to be attracted to a specific behavior and if they ever see that as an act, they are sacrificing keeping that act up in exchange for some societal respect and/or reward.
